Gas trip calculator: how to calculate fuel cost

This simple fuel cost calculator lets you estimate how much your car trip will cost in gas. To use it, you only need three values: your trip distance, your car’s gas mileage and the current gas price.

The basic idea is: first calculate how many liters or gallons of fuel you will use, then multiply that by the gas price per liter or per gallon. The calculator above does all of this for you in one step and works both in km / L and miles / gallon.

Supported fuel consumption units

L / 100 km – common in Europe (for example 6.5 L/100 km).
km / liter – how many kilometers you drive on one liter of fuel.
MPG (US) – miles per gallon, used in the United States.
gal / 100 miles – fuel used per 100 miles.

You can enter the trip distance in kilometers or miles and choose whether the gas price is per liter or gallon. The tool converts everything internally and shows one clear total.

Why use a gas cost calculator?

A gas trip calculator is useful if you want to:

• plan a road trip and estimate total gas cost
• compare commuting by car vs. public transport

Frequently asked questions about the gas trip calculator

How does the gas trip calculator work?

Enter your trip distance, your car’s fuel consumption, and the gas price. The calculator automatically calculates how much fuel you will use and the total fuel cost for the trip.

Can I calculate gas cost in miles and kilometers?

Yes. You can enter the distance in miles or kilometers and choose fuel consumption units such as MPG, L/100 km, or kilometers per liter.

Is the calculated fuel cost exact?

The calculation is mathematically correct, but the result is an estimate. Actual fuel cost may vary due to driving style, traffic, terrain, and weather conditions.

Does the calculator work with liters and gallons?

Yes. You can calculate fuel cost using liters or gallons. The calculator converts all units automatically.

Is this calculator suitable for road trips and daily commuting?
